Barcelona are reportedly planning to sign Sporting CP star Viktor Gyokeres for a staggering €70 million next summer, with the intention of loaning him back to the Portuguese club for a full season. This move is seen as a long-term strategy to replace Robert Lewandowski, whose contract with Barcelona is set to expire in June 2026. According to reports, Barcelona believe Gyokeres has the potential to be Lewandowski’s successor, given his impressive form this season, with 24 goals and four assists in 19 games across all competitions.

Gyokeres, a Swedish international, has been one of the standout strikers in Europe this season, and his brilliance has not gone unnoticed. Manchester United and Arsenal are also keen to sign the 26-year-old, but Barcelona are reportedly willing to spend big to secure his services. The Catalans plan to trigger Gyokeres’ €100 million release clause in his current contract, which runs until June 2028.

The report suggests that Barcelona’s plan is to loan Gyokeres back to Sporting CP for a full season to allow Lewandowski to continue playing for the club until the end of his contract. This would ensure that Lewandowski has a smooth transition to his successor, allowing the German international to maintain his high level of performance. In the meantime, Gyokeres would be given the opportunity to gain more experience and develop his game further.

Gyokeres’ ability to finish is regarded as one of his strongest assets, and he would undoubtedly bring a new dimension to Barcelona’s attack. His signature could be a significant coup for the club, giving them a talented young striker to build around for the future. However, it remains to be seen whether Barcelona’s hierarchy will be willing to spend big on Gyokeres, especially considering the club’s recent financial struggles.

It’s worth noting that Gyokeres’ potential arrival at Barcelona would also raise questions about the future of other strikers at the club. Ansu Fati, who was once touted as a potential successor to Lionel Messi, has struggled with injuries and lack of consistency in recent times. According to reports, Saudi Pro League giants Al-Hilal and Al-Nassr are interested in signing Fati, and Barcelona may be willing to sell him if the right offer comes along. The proceeds from Fati’s potential sale could be used to finance the purchase of a left-winger to compete with Raphinha.
