Chelsea are reportedly interested in re-signing Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi, who has been linked with a move to Liverpool in the recent past. Guehi, 24, has cemented himself as one of the best English defenders since leaving Chelsea for £20 million in the summer of 2021. He has made 126 appearances across all competitions for Crystal Palace, scoring seven goals in the process.

Currently, Chelsea have a number of centre-back options, including Levi Colwill and Wesley Fofana as their starting pair, while also having Axel Disasi, Benoit Badiashile, Tosin Adarabioyo, and Renato Veiga as rotational options. According to midfielder Graeme Bailey, Guehi is currently high up on Chelsea’s transfer wish list, and the Liverpool target is not pushing for a January deal as he has a year left on his contract. Bailey stated that Chelsea want to upgrade their options behind Fofana and Colwill, and Guehi is considered to be a vital starter for England now, having featured in 22 games, including six UEFA Euro 2024 outings.

Guehi’s form and potential have also caught the attention of former Liverpool star Danny Murphy, who believes that Chelsea transfer target Liam Delap could be the apt Harry Kane replacement for England. Murphy stated that Delap has all the attributes to be a top international player, citing his lovely balance between physical and technical abilities, and rarely does one get both. Delap has scored six goals in 12 Premier League appearances since joining Ipswich Town from Manchester City for an initial £15 million earlier this summer. Last campaign, Delap produced eight goals and two assists in 31 EFL Championship matches while on loan at Hull City from Manchester City.

While Guehi’s potential future is still uncertain, Chelsea’s interest in re-signing him is undeniable. With a year left on his contract and being a vital starter for England, Guehi is considered to be a very attractive proposition for one of the top six clubs. We can expect Chelsea’s interest in Guehi to continue, especially if they fail to secure a replacement for their starting centre-backs. As of now, it remains to be seen whether Guehi will return to Chelsea or choose to join another club.
