Manchester United will have key players Bruno Fernandes and Manuel Ugarte available for their Premier League clash against Liverpool on Sunday, following their suspensions in the 2-0 defeat to Newcastle United. Fernandes, who was serving a suspension for a red card against Wolves, is available because his earlier red card against Tottenham was rescinded, and his third red came in a Europa League match against FC Porto. Meanwhile, Ugarte missed the last match after accumulating five yellow cards in the Premier League.
However, United’s manager Ruben Amorim confirmed that Marcus Rashford may not be in the squad due to illness. While Rashford was an unused substitute against Newcastle, Amorim explained, “It’s the same situation but, at the moment, he’s ill. I think he’s going to be out this week. He’s not training so we will see.” In addition, injuries have sidelined Victor Lindelof, Luke Shaw, and Mason Mount, and Jonny Evans was absent for the match against Newcastle, with young Godwill Kukonki replacing him on the bench.
Liverpool’s team news comes with good news as well. Head coach Arne Slot confirmed that full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold will feature on Sunday despite transfer rumors linking him to Real Madrid. Meanwhile, Joe Gomez is unavailable due to injury, and while defenders Ibrahima Konate and Conor Bradley are returning to training, Slot emphasized the importance of seeing how they handle team sessions. He said, “Joe is, of course, not in a good place when it comes to his injury… Conor and Ibou will train with us today for the first time. So, [I’m] curious and interested to see where they exactly are.”
Dominik Szoboszlai also returns to the squad after serving a one-match ban. Slot expressed confidence that the rest of the team is fit and ready to play, barring any last-minute illnesses, with Gomez the only confirmed absentee for Sunday’s game.
