Juventus rescued a 2-2 draw against struggling Venezia in a dramatic Serie A match on Saturday, thanks to a last-second penalty from Dusan Vlahovic. The penalty, awarded after a handball by Venezia defender Antonio Candela in the dying moments, saved Juventus from their first league defeat of the season. This result marked Juventus’ 10th draw and their fourth consecutive one, leaving them in sixth place with 28 points, nine points adrift of league leaders Atalanta. Venezia, on the other hand, remained at the bottom of the table with just 10 points.
The match began with Juventus taking an early lead in the 19th minute when Federico Gatti scored from a corner. The ball was flicked onto the far post, where Gatti was unmarked and easily tapped it in to put Juventus ahead. Despite their dominance, Juventus struggled to extend their lead and allowed Venezia to equalize just after the hour mark. Mikael Egill Ellertsson scored for Venezia with a well-placed header following a cross from the wing, bringing the score to 1-1.
Venezia then stunned the home crowd at Allianz Stadium seven minutes from time when Jay Idzes scored with a header from a free kick, putting the visitors 2-1 ahead. The goal seemed like it would be enough for Venezia to secure a rare victory, but in the final moments, Juventus were awarded a penalty after the handball by Candela. Vlahovic stepped up to take the spot kick, calmly converting it to level the score at 2-2, ensuring his team avoided defeat.
The draw further highlighted Juventus’ struggles this season, as they continue to drop points in a series of draws, leaving their title hopes hanging by a thread as they sit well behind the league leaders.
