Amad Diallo continues to impress with his remarkable form and adaptability. The Ivory Coast international showcased his skills in Sunday’s emphatic 4-0 victory over Everton, contributing with two crucial assists.
As his current contract is set to expire next summer, with the club holding the option of extending it for another year, questions about his future have surfaced.
Head coach Ruben Amorim, however, remains calm about the situation. During a press conference ahead of Wednesday’s Premier League clash against Arsenal, Amorim addressed the topic confidently.
“I think he wants to stay and we want him to stay,” Amorim said. “So that is clear, and we will find a solution.”
Amad’s versatility has made him an indispensable asset to the team. Although he has primarily been deployed as a right wing-back under Amorim’s management, he is equally effective in a more advanced position behind the striker.
Amad’s willingness to contribute wherever needed was evident in his interview for the upcoming edition of Inside United, where he humorously mentioned that he would even play as a goalkeeper if asked.
This flexibility is one of the traits Amorim highly values in Amad. The coach elaborated on this during the press conference, highlighting the player’s ability to excel in different systems and roles.
“I think that’s one of the great advantages of Amad,” Amorim explained. “He’s very good for me. He’s excellent in that position, but he’s also capable of playing between the lines. He has good control and seems faster with the ball than without it. He’s capable of playing in both positions and can adapt to different systems. That kind of player is essential for the team.”
Amorim also clarified why Amad has been used in a more defensive position as a right wing-back. The coach sees it as a strategic move that leverages the player’s strengths, particularly his left foot and ability to handle pressure.
“Because of his left foot,” Amorim said when asked about his choice. “In that position, the way he receives the ball matters.
A right-footed player might struggle to find space to come inside, but Amad, with his left foot, has an advantage. He can take on defenders one-on-one and break high-press situations. That ability is critical in those moments.”
Amorim added that physicality is another key factor in selecting players for such roles. He emphasized that it’s not about size but stamina and the ability to run effectively, both qualities Amad possesses in abundance.
Amad’s performances, adaptability, and determination have made him a standout player this season. He will aim to continue his strong run of form in Wednesday’s challenging game against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium. The match, scheduled to kick off at 20:15 GMT, promises to be a test of skill and resilience for both the player and the team.
