Chelsea forward Pedro Neto has hailed the Portuguese spirit following Ruben Amorim’s appointment as Manchester United’s head coach, citing the former Sporting manager’s enviable record and impressive performance as a manager. Neto, who has played for Portugal’s national team, believes that Amorim’s success is a testament to the quality of both players and coaches that the country has produced. He expressed his wishes for Amorim’s success, although he also mentioned that he hopes to do better against him when they meet on the pitch.

Amorim took charge at Old Trafford at the start of the international break, following the removal of former manager Erik ten Hag from his post last month. Manchester United has had a dismal start to the season, and the appointment of Amorim is seen as an attempt to turn the team’s fortunes around. Neto believes that Amorim’s appointment is a reflection of the Portuguese spirit and its emphasis on quality, professionalism, and values.

In an interview, Neto praised Amorim, saying, “It’s a sign that the Portuguese are working very well. It’s a sign that both players and coaches have produced a great batch and of great quality. Above all, and as I said before in the national team, I wish Ruben all the best, except against Chelsea.” He also emphasized the importance of the Portuguese spirit, stating, “I think he is a Portuguese product showing the quality he has. It is also the Portuguese spirit and I hope it continues like this. We are a small country, but we show our greatness based on these values and both as people and as professionals of the Portuguese people.”

Manchester United has faced a difficult season so far, struggling to find the back of the net under Erik ten Hag and, although they were a little better under interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy. The team has registered 12 goals from 11 games in the Premier League this season, which is a significant improvement from their dismal performance under ten Hag. However, they are still struggling to find consistency and have only managed to win three games in the league this season.

In contrast, Chelsea has had a much more successful season, with 47 goals in 19 games in all competitions. The London giants have found the back of the net 23 times in 12 games in the league and are currently third in the Premier League. They recently secured a 2-0 win over Leicester City, which underlines their threat to potential title contenders.

Despite the differences in their performance, both teams will have a chance to put their mark on the Premier League when they meet next. However, for now, Neto is focusing on his team’s own strengths and weaknesses, acknowledging that Manchester United has the potential to make a significant impact in the league. As the two teams prepare to face each other, it will be interesting to see how they fare against each other, and Neto’s words of encouragement for Amorim may well be a sign of things to come.
